Biography of Facundo Fierro
He is one of the most representative Canarian artists. A painter and sculptor, he is a versatile artist with a strong presence in architecture and urban planning, and has distinguished himself as a staunch defender of the islands' natural and cultural values, as well as in the world of image and design. "He seems to be a synthesis of the archipelago. He was born in Las Palmas to a family tradition in La Palma and trained in Tenerife. He traveled throughout America, toured Europe, trained with the great painters, and acquired a unique style. He is him and nothing else. His painting is absolutely unlike anything else." (Marqués de Lozoya, Madrid.)
From 1976 onwards, he devoted himself exclusively to painting. He studied in Paris, later moving to Madrid, where he resided, although his stay on the islands was intermittent and continuous. A constant traveler, after numerous exhibitions, his work is featured in various international collections.
In painting, he began with watercolor, where he achieved the highest technical aspirations, and today he expresses himself in acrylics, mural painting, and various other techniques. He experiments with mixing techniques, transferring his ambient sensations to the canvas in textures. Connected with the Madrid movement, in whose beginnings he actively participated, he founded El Taller in Santa Cruz de La Palma with a group of intellectuals and artists and embarked on a career in printmaking, producing notable editions. In sculpture, he uses the language of abstract organic forms in open spaces as a way of capturing or enveloping the space in large dimensions, involving the viewer in the landscape. Figuration, especially in bronze, composes another type of monumental performance.
