Volcano Poem: painting, cinema, and book between 1979 and 1981

At the end of the seventies, Facundo Fierro developed "Poema del Volcán" (Volcano Poem), a project that was not limited to a pictorial cycle: it became what would be described today as an early transmedia project, with offshoots in film and publishing.

The most tangible literary and graphic piece is the book "Teide, Timanfaya, Taburiente. Poema del volcán", created together with the writer Luis Ortega Abraham and published by Ecotopía Ediciones in 1981 (147 pages, large format, ISBN 8485813065). The volume can still be found today in the secondary book market, which confirms its actual circulation beyond the artist's own circle.

In parallel, the filmmaker Jorge Lozano Van de Walle made films linked to the project—including one dedicated to Timanfaya and later works on Teide and the Taburiente National Park—as noted in a retrospective dedicated to his work. The combination of painting, book, and film around a single thematic axis—the three great volcanoes of the Canary Islands—is one of the most unique features of this phase of Fierro's career.

Years later, several pieces linked to "El poema del volcán. Taburiente" and "Poema Atlántida" became part of the historical-artistic inventory of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, dated 1984, which places work from this cycle within a public institutional collection.
