Piel de Santa Cruz I, pintura de Facundo Fierro

Piel de Santa Cruz, by Facundo Fierro, at the Parliament of the Canary Islands (2009)

On May 8, 2009, the then President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Antonio Castro, inaugurated the exhibition "Piel de Santa Cruz" (Skin of Santa Cruz) by Facundo Fierro in the Statute of Autonomy Hall, promoted by the CESICA-Proyecto Hombre Canary Foundation. The Chamber itself preserves photographs of the inauguration ceremony.

The "Piel de Santa Cruz" series—which includes pieces such as "Piel de Santa Cruz I, II, and III" and "Pies de Santa Cruz"—translates the textures and surfaces of the historic center of the Tenerife capital into Fierro's pictorial language, in the same vein of focusing on the material skin of cities that runs through much of his work on architecture and urban landscapes.

The fact that the exhibition was held at the headquarters of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, rather than in a conventional exhibition space, and that it was linked to a social project like Proyecto Hombre, adds an institutional and social dimension to this exhibition that is unusual in a painter's exhibition career.
