Intervención cromática de Facundo Fierro en la Calle Perojo, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Chromatic intervention by Facundo Fierro on Calle Perojo, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (2000-2001)

At the end of 2000 and the beginning of 2001, Facundo Fierro carried out a chromatic intervention on the architectural complex of Calle Perojo, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as recorded in the academic documentation of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria regarding this street.

Calle Perojo is one of the city's most unique residential complexes: a row of single-family homes with gardens built at the beginning of the 20th century, valued for its architectural homogeneity and its landscape value within the urban fabric of Las Palmas. Fierro's intervention focused on the chromatic treatment of the facades of the entire complex, in line with the work he had already developed on vernacular architecture in Santa Cruz de La Palma and Arucas.

The recognition of the street's heritage value did not stop there: years later, the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council promoted a special plan to protect its artistic and cultural values, and the street was eventually declared a Property of Cultural Interest.

The case of Calle Perojo adds a third documented intervention to Fierro's line of work on the color of Canarian architecture, in a complex that municipal planning itself would later recognize as heritage to be protected.
