"Dunes" sculpture, by Facundo Fierro, in Maspalomas
At the pedestrian access to Maspalomas beach, in the Gran Canarian municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, is "Dunas," a portico sculpture in Corten steel by Facundo Fierro conceived to mark the entrance to the protected natural area of the Maspalomas Dunes, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Canary Islands.
The piece is part of the same body of sculptural work in public space as "Alianza," in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, or "Flora," in the same municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana: abstract forms in Corten steel designed to dialogue with the landscape that surrounds them, in this case one of the most visited natural spaces in the archipelago.
To date, no external documentation has been located specifying the exact year the piece was installed; if that information becomes available, it will be incorporated into a future update of this record.
