1976: Facundo Fierro's first solo exhibition
Facundo Fierro Sánchez, born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1938 and raised in Tenerife since childhood, dates the beginning of his professional and exclusive dedication to painting to 1976, with his first solo exhibitions. This is recorded in the chronology prepared by Museos de Tenerife for the exhibition "Al flujo del alisio" (2024), which identifies that year as the starting point of an exhibition career that extends, in documented form, to the present day.
Before 1976, Fierro had studied technical architecture and worked in the fields of urban planning and design—a facet he would never fully abandon and which reappears in his later work on landscape, color, and visual identity. The transition to painting as an exclusive activity marks, according to his own biographical account, the beginning of a period of itinerant training between the Canary Islands, Paris, and Madrid.
This starting date should not be read as if the artist had not painted before, but as the moment when painting became his central occupation and when he began exhibiting individually: the foundation upon which the rest of his exhibition trajectory documented in this archive is built.
